Cognitive Processing Therapy

What is Cognitive Processing Therapy?

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured therapy protocol that is typically delivered over 12-16 sessions. It is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that focuses on the relationship between your thoughts and emotions surrounding the event you experienced. Each session follows a particular agenda and you will be expected to complete homework assignments in between sessions.

How can CPT help?

I like CPT because it focuses less on the specific details of your event and more on how that event is affecting you today. Instead of reliving the experience over and over, we will examine the thoughts coming up for you now and whether there might be a different way to view things.

What kinds of trauma is CPT for?

CPT can work to treat a variety of traumatic experiences, but I find that it is most useful for single event traumas such as sexual assault, natural disasters, car accidents or major injuries. Schedule a free 15 minute consultation to see if CPT is right for you.

How do I get started?

Let’s start with a free 15 minute consultation where I can gather some basic information and answer any questions you may have about CPT or trauma therapy in general.
